Choose Natural Gas for a Sustainable, Efficient Home

If you’re looking to energize your home efficiently and sustainably, natural gas is the right choice for you. The efficiency of natural gas – more than twice as high as electricity – can minimize your home’s emissions while keeping pace with even your busiest days.

Checklist for a Perfect Home

At more than twice the efficiency of electricity, using natural gas in your home is a smart and sustainable choice – saving you crucial time and energy while providing on-demand heating and cooking.

Natural gas appliances are significantly more efficient than electric appliances in a residential setting, providing comfort and economic value to you as a homeowner.

Homes that use natural gas directly are nearly 2.5 times as efficient as homes using all electric appliances – helping reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) like carbon dioxide that contribute to global warming. The direct use of natural gas is 92% efficient from source to point of use within the home, more than twice the efficiency of traditional electricity generation. By switching to natural gas, you’re reducing the amount of energy required to run the appliances you need in your home, saving you money on your bill and minimizing your carbon footprint.

Through innovations like renewable natural gas (RNG) and ongoing efficiency improvements, natural gas utility companies continue to reduce their carbon footprint and make energizing your home more efficient and sustainable. As these improvements progress, natural gas will continue to be an energy source you can feel good about – for your wallet and for reducing GHG emissions.

When used directly for cooking, clothes drying and home and water heating, natural gas has a source-to-site efficiency of 92% – meaning nearly all of the energy contained in the original gas is utilized in appliances. However, when natural gas-fired power plants generate electricity for these same appliances, the efficiency is only 37%.

Since 1970, gas utilities have added more than 30 million residential customers with virtually no increase in emissions, and the sector continues to shrink its carbon footprint through innovations like renewable natural gas (RNG).
